Admiral Sir Peter White passed away on May 22, 2010, aged 91. There will be a memorial service for him at St Nicholas church in Arundel on 30th June.

The first of only two naval officers of the Supply and Secretariat specialisation to have reached the rank of full admiral, Peter White had other “firsts” to his credit. He was the first supply officer to become a member of the Admiralty Board and the first non-seaman officer to be appointed Knight Grand Cross of an order (in his case that of the British Empire) while still serving. Until promotion to the substantive rank of captain, his career was unusual in that most of the time for political reasons he served one and often two ranks above the substantive, wearing full captain’s uniform from the age of 29 and for 20 years, instead of the conventional nine.
