The team celebrating the victory: (back, L-R), Charlie Scott, David Walter, John Turnpenny, Tony Robin, Graham Turner, David Norman, (front L-R) Mark Rumble, Jack Fuller, Richard Owen and Andy Hitchcock

Every year the ODGS have a triangular match against King’s School Canterbury and St Lawrence College. 2010 marked the Fiftieth Anniversary of the match and Dover College had only won the Douglas Jervis Salver seven times since the fixture began, the last time being in 2000.

However, on a cold spring day in April this year, Dover won this handsome trophy again….and by a comfortable margin! Dover 6.5 pts….King’s….3.5 pts….St Lawrence 2 pts.

Following the golf, thirty five people sat down to a sumptuous lunch at the Royal Ashdown GC and the Presidents of the relevant societies told of the history of the fixture, interspersed with old golfing stories! To mark the Fiftieth Anniversary, commemorative tankards were presented to those who had played in the original fixture in 1960, in our case John Turnpenny, our ex-President, and David Norman who had represented the team earlier in the day.
