The Old Dovorian Lodge, in Partnership with The Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons Charity are making a difference at the Dover smART Project
The Old Dovorian Lodge’s continued support as part of the masters list for 2020 and 2021, in which the lodge in partnership with the Cornwallis East Kent Freemasonry Charity have continued to donate. £2600 has so far been donated, of which £1100 has come from the Lodges Relief Chest, and £1500 from the Cornwallis East Kent Freemasonry Charity.
The Lodge pledged a total of £4000 to the Dover smART Project at the beginning of 2020, this to help provide IT equipment and other support material to enable the young careers to continue to get the necessary support. Not only to help in caring for their parents and siblings, but also to give them the space they need to have a break from their responsibilities for ones so young.
Back then we had no idea how important this support would be during the pandemic, where these young people would face isolation from their support networks, as well as having to try and keep up their schooling.
The team at the Dover smART project came up with ingenious ways to maintain contact with their clients throughout the pandemic, with “Activity Boxes” for example, the team at Dover smART Project visited their clients every fortnight to personally deliver these “Activity Box’s” which enabled them to check that they were coping, resolve any problems and support them during these challenging times.
The other area, in which the Dover smART Project were focusing on was the IT support that they needed, this is where the Old Dovorian Lodge in partnership with the Cornwallis East Kent Freemasonry Charity were able to help, by providing funds through donations to enable the Dover smART Project to buy new IT equipment, which they had previously had no access to.
This had an immediate impact, as The Dover smART Project could now do all of the printing for fact and support sheets “In House” for example, in stead of having to have these printed externally, this meant that the funds of the charity previously spent on external printing, could now be directed to where the funds were needed to help these young careers.
On Friday of last week – 19th November, The Dover smART project featured on the “BBC Children in Need”, as part of a National televised piece about Young Careers, which was both uplifting, and thought provoking, this televised section can be seen opposite.
This shows just how amazing these your careers are, and that the support that the Old Dovorian Lodge and the Cornwallis East Kent Freemasons Charity is really making a deference to the lives of not only the young careers but also to their families.
The Old Dovorian Lodge are due to make their final donation to the Dover smART Project during December of this year, to meet their original pledge, it would be amazing if the Lodge was in a position to exceed the original pledge of £4000,
