ODGS AT TANDRIDGE GOLF COURSE, SURREY: WEDNESDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2020

A very select group of seven ODs arrived at midday at Tandridge golf course for a very decent lunch and then some golf.

However, during lunch we watched some heavy rain showers but we had planned that it would stop as soon as we arrived on the tee at 2pm. And, sure enough, it did stop raining. The first group was our elite group of two x 12 handicappers and one playing off 18 and the second group of four was a mixed bag (between 17 & 28).

We all managed to play some decent golf and some were more consistent than others. The longest drive (prize was a sleeve of balls) was won by Patrick King with a great shot straight down the fairway and he also came second (35 points) in the event and won a decent bottle of red and more balls. The nearest the pin winner (prize was also balls) with a fine shot very close to the pin was Justin Hatfield. Justin also came in with the highest score of 36 points. He won a couple of bottles of wine and some more balls. Justin also won the Crescent Trophy (see photo).

The Captain came in for a bit of stick as we did not stop, as we normal do, for a cup of tea and cakes after 9 holes but he tried to explain that it would have been dark if we had done that. Luckily those with a sweet tooth were able to have huge helpings of dessert at lunch (sticky toffee pudding, choc cake, Eton mess etc etc.).

Over a beer after the golf, we had some sandwiches and prize giving. Unfortunately, only two out of the group of seven walked away with wine and balls leaving the other five disappointed. I think we will have to cut the winners’ handicaps for our final event at Knole Park on Friday 6 November.
