OLD DOVORIAN GOLFING SOCIETY MATCH REPORT AGAINST DOVER COLLEGE MONDAY 30TH MAY 2022
Ten OD golfers and 10 people representing Dover College experienced a wonderful day at Etchinghill Golf Course on Monday 30 May 2022 in fine weather if a little chilly at times when exposed to the wind. We all had a really good breakfast before we teed off and after the golf, we had a good selection of sandwiches, a drink and the results.
I am delighted to announce that the ODs won! There were five pairs from each team and the overall result was 3-2 to the ODGS. As we lost in 2021, this was a significant improvement. The winning pairs for the ODs were:
- Mark Rumble & Stephen Alleyne
- Howard Tubman & Michael Walter
- Nigel Tubman & Tony Kilbee.
The winners of all 5 matches were presented with a mixture of either golf balls or wine. The nearest the pin on the Par 3 (17th) and nearest the pin in two on the Par 4 (7th) were both won by fine shots from pupils (Barnaby and Tom) who managed to put parents, teachers, and the ODs in their place!
When the five pupils who played for the College leave for university or any other destination, we are hopeful they will join the ODGS. Quite a few of their drives off the tee were in the region of 300 yards but, to be fair, they were not all straight down the fairways! I’m pretty sure in a couple of years, they will be winning the longest drive competitions without any trouble.
Well done to everyone who contributed to a really good match and we are all looking forward to the re-match in 2023.
Later in the summer and autumn, we will be visiting North Foreland, Tandridge, Redlibbets, Hever Castle, West Surrey, and finally, Knole Park on 3 November
