Old Dovorian Golfing Society Annual visit to Tandridge Golf Club, Surrey

Thursday 21 July 2022

If you like golf then the opportunity to play at Tandridge, one of the finest parkland golf courses in Surrey is not to be missed. Much better still was the wonderful opportunity for our little society to enjoy what is undoubtedly one of the best golf club lunches on offer before our round commenced. (Perhaps that was one of the prime reasons for some our members attended!).

Given this very hot dry summer and given the age of our team (there were lots of comparisons being made to 1976) the team took the sensible advice of our Captain Nigel Tubman to take on plenty of water (and beer!) before teeing off.

This year, Jarle Tatt, Mark Rumble, Michael Tubman, Gilbert Thompson, Charles Scott, Richard Owen, Michael Walter, Howard Tubman, Tony Robin and Nigel Tubman took part.

Charlie Scott, one of our most reliable points accumulators, repeated his winning ways with an unbelievable 42 points tally to win the Prestigious Crescent Trophy. Cries for this new world handicapping system to be revised, regrettably fell on deaf ears. Mark another of our very solid golfers secured 38 points (normally a winning score) with three players scoring 33 points, Gilbert, Nigel & Jarle, with Jarle securing third place on count back. Very close behind with 32 points were Richard & Tony. Nearest the pin prize was won by Michael, and the longest drive prize was won by Jarle, given his renowned ball striking ability.

Points in our society mean prizes and so Nigel was delighted to raise quite a few smiles with his generous award of new balls (softening the loss of their own) and wine (to avoid those stops at the local supermarkets to bring wine home to our better half’s).

We have 4 remining events on our calendar

  • Redlibbets GC (Longfield Kent)-Thursday 1st September
  • Hever Castle GC – Thursday 15th September
  • West Surrey GC (Godalming) – Thursday 13th October
  • Knole Park GC (Sevenoaks) – Thursday 3rd November.

We would be delighted to welcome both new & existing ODs and alumni to our friendly society, so if you would like more information, please feel free to email our current captain ([email protected]).
