It has been the tradition for the Old Dovorian Lodge to hold a summer festival every summer at the college. So, it is but fair to give a brief historical context to its foundation. Following a Petition presented by W. Bro. A. Atkinson PGDC (Kent) on 4th November 1936, the Old Lawrentian Lodge No. 4141 (established several years earlier) recommended and sponsored the formation of the Old Dovorian Lodge. The Lodge was Consecrated on Friday, 29th January1937 (with W. Bro Atkinson as Primus Master). The Consecration team included R.W.Bro. Sir Gerald Wollaston KCB, KCVO, PGW (Garter Principal King of Arms) and R.W.Bro Sir Frank Newson-Smith Bart OSM, PGW who was a member of the Old Lawrentian Lodge.
The Headmaster of Dover College, W.S. Lee was the first Initiate of the Lodge. There were four other Initiates in 1937 and two more before the war. R.W.Bro. Rt. Hon. Lord Cornwallis MC DL Provincial Grand Master of Kent attended the Lodge officially on 26th January 1938 for the Installation of the second Worshipful Master – W.Bro. Major (later Brigadier) Duncan Brown (PGSwdB in 1942).
At that Meeting a Petition was presented by W.Bro. F.M. Furley PAGDC to form a new Lodge to be called the Cantuarian Lodge, which was eventually sponsored by the Old Dovorian Lodge and Consecrated later that year.
Thus was formed the unique relationship between the three East Kent Public School Lodges with respective members once in vigorous competition on the playing fields now in harmonious Brotherly co-operation in our individual and combined Masonic work.
Now in its 85th year, the Old Dovorian Lodge will be holding a “Summer Festival” on Saturday 4th June 2022 at Dover College
