At Dover College I was a boarder in School House between 1979 and 1984. I’m also the undefeated 400 metre
freestyle swimming champion!
Before that I went to the Junior School in Shorncliffe Road in Folkestone where I was a pupil in all
years with the exception of the first year in Pre-Prep.
In other words, I’ve been in the Dover College system between the ages of 6 and 18 and I’m
obviously extremely honoured and grateful to be elected as President of the OD Club.
After leaving Dover I went to Leicester University and did a degree in Classics and Ancient History
and then went on to do a law degree at De Montfort University. After that I passed my Law Society
Solicitor Finals exams at Guildford College of Law and, for curiosity’s sake, did a Master’s degree in
Business Studies at the University of Kent.
I’m a Solicitor specialising in personal injury and clinical negligence claims.
I’ve been a Solicitor for more than 25 years and currently work in central London and am working on
the personal injury claims that came from the dreadful Grenfell Tower fire disaster in June 2017
when 72 people died in the biggest domestic fire since World War 2.
I have also worked as a locum Solicitor working for the NHS in defending clinical negligence claims
against NHS Trusts and doctors.
I’ve also taken an interest in the management and regulation of the legal profession and have been
on the Kent Law Society management committee for nearly 15 years until I stepped down a couple
of years ago.
That resulted in my becoming and leading the local legal profession when I was made President in
2017 in the lead-up to the Society’s 200 the anniversary which obviously meant a lot of organising for a
large party that followed.
I live in Hythe where I grew up. It’s too beautiful a town by the sea to leave. I have a 20 year old
daughter called Katie who is at Southampton University studying Philosophy. My interests include
ancient Greece and Rome, history and swimming long distance charity events. I’m also a Freemason
and member of the Old Dovorian Lodge.
I’m a Trustee of the St Saviour’s Medical Charity that provides grants to those who are eligible in
need of surgical operations carried out in the private sector where NHS waiting lists are too long for
the residents in the district of Hythe, Folkestone and Romney Marsh.
