The Old Dovorian Club Autumn Sports and Social Event Held at Dover College Sunday 16th October 2022.
The weather was kind, and we had a decent turnout on The Close. Several teams/players sent apologies with the best one being having to take the girlfriend on a promised trip otherwise there would be a divorce before the marriage!
We had players from Surrey, The Hague, Germany and more locally from Deal and Dover. Spectators made special efforts with some dropping in en route from Champagne country to home, on holiday from the Bahamas and one managing to call in on his way from Guyana to Huddersfield.
ODs are amazing!!
The match itself was keenly fought between the Kent team and the Rest of the World team. Jack Hanson and Ryan Sewell created many chances for Archie Meleady who was a bit profligate, and his finishing showed why he played in goal at College!
Ben Fuschillo was fluent and as commanding as PMF used to be in the Sports Hall for the staff 5-a-side team.
The only goal came from a low cross from the right by George Menges which was hammered home by Loic Woodhead. It was a game that could have had more goals and there were good skills on show. Toby Douglas, Ben Lewis, and Yannick Wuest all ran themselves into the ground and we were grateful to Louis Turner and Lawrence Teeling from the staff for both participation and quality of performance.
It would be lovely to have more players next year: the spectators ranged in age from young Albert with Macy Hadler to the more senior Roger.
The College catering team excelled as usual and served an excellent BBQ to round off proceedings!!
