We could organise events further afield if there is demand. It is sociable day out and we all have a good natter about this and that. We are an eclectic mix involving ODs with handicaps ranging from around 10 up to 30 or more so we cater for a variety of standards and experience.
The Golfing Society was formed in 1961 when the first Triangular match involving Kings Canterbury, St Lawrence and Dover was played.
For most of our events we have around ten ODs and usually play on an individual basis in three or four balls for a trophy and highly prized golf balls with the OD logo.
One of the key tasks for ODGS is to raise its profile among Old Dovorians (ie the more recent leavers of Dover College) members of staff at the College and the wider community of Dover College. Reports and photos on each event have been published on the OD website with links to social media. We are actively trying to recruit more college leavers to join the golfing society because it is a great way to keep in touch with the college and fellow pupils/students as well as keeping fit and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere. A match against the College is planned for 2022 and we are looking at ways we can encourage those at the college and recent leavers to play golf.
Most of our fixtures are joint events with members of the Old Lawrentians Golf Society, which helps to make it a good day out.
